Los Super Elegantes at Baltic Contemporary Art

VAMOS! Festival and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art present a premiere performance on July 16 by Los Super Elegantes, the collaborative work of Milena Muzquiz and Martiniano Lopez-Crozet.
Blurring the line between art and music, high and pop culture, punk and mariachi, failure and success, real life and pop stardom, Los Super Elegantes (LSE) take on various roles, from rock stars to writers and on stage provocateurs in their performances.
This exclusive performance by LSE at BALTIC’s Level 1 Performance Space starts at 7.00pm. It is conducted in three furniture environments in front of a video projection, acting as a vibrant back-drop to this off the wall performance. The first environment consists of a cafe situation, the second a domestic area and the third a busy office setting. The performers will musically demonstrate the change in character as they move through the three environments.
Before the performance videos and previous work by LSE will be on show in the Level 1 Cinema Space and immediately following the performance there will be a Latin-Hip-Hop DJ-ed dance party for all guests of the performance. In addition to the performance, LSE will be giving a talk on Wednesday 16 July at 2.00pm in Quay on Level 2. This will take the form of a relaxed presentation with Milena and Martiniano describing the history of LSE and what their work entails.
A stylish t-shirt party will round off the appearance from LSE at BALTIC on Thursday 17 July. The FREE t-shirt making workshop will take place from 4.00pm in Quay on Level 2. Pictures of participants creating their own t-shirts will be taken and then traced on the shirts using a light-box. Participants to the free workshop will be able to take their unique t-shirt home with them. Those interested in attending the workshop are encouraged to pre-book a place by calling BALTIC on T: 0191 478 1810. Materials and t-shirts are being provided by BALTIC, all ages are welcome.

Los Super Elegantes is part of the VAMOS! 2008 Latin festival, which forms part of NewcastleGateshead’s world-class programme of festivals and events. Taking place every two years, this is the second VAMOS! festival to hit the North East.
